We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Charlie Stevens as Team Luton’s new Head Coach from September 2022.

Charlie joins us from Plymouth Leander Swimming Club, where he is currently the Head of Juniors and Regional Age Group Coach. He comes with a wealth of experience having had an active role in swimming over the past 16 years, 7 years as a competitive swimmer at Harlow Penguins Swimming Club where he reached regional level and 9 years as a swimming coach. He has worked with swimmers of all levels, ranging from teaching Level 1 learn to swim to coaching swimmers competing at British and National Championships. At the age of 18, he became the youngest Head Coach in Britain when he took over at Brentwood Swimming Club, he significantly increased the number of county, regional and national qualifiers.
In 2018, Charlie returned to Harlow Penguins as Performance Coach and Assistant Head Coach, delivering a programme which again was responsible for a big rise in county and regional qualifications. As well as working with Harlow’s national qualifiers, he mentored junior coaches, developed a strength and conditioning programme and organised the club’s first training camp in Spain. He has since coached Essex County junior’s skills camps (11 years), Essex County team at inter-county competitions, East Region Foundation Performance Camp in Peterborough and the East Region Olympic trial camp in Loughborough. He joined Plymouth Leander in the summer of 2020 where his key responsibilities included development of the Junior pathway and improving the partnerships with local leisure providers and swim schools. He actively promotes and develops coach, parent and athlete education programmes through clinics, seminars, workshops and camps. His role has seen him assisting the Director and Deputy Director of swimming with high performance training sessions, while being a line manager to junior coaches within the programme.
Charlie has impressed us with his knowledge and approach, his passion for the sport, his work disciplines and his desire to build a good programme for Team Luton from Academy through to Performance. Charlie is passionate about realising the potential of each individual swimmer he coaches, and he is committed to working collaboratively to provide the highest standards of coaching across the Club.
Commenting on his appointment Charlie said – Firstly, I would like to the thank the Committee for giving me this opportunity and believing in me to take the club forward. Some of you may have seen me at Regional meets a few years ago when I was at Harlow and I cannot wait to come back to the region. I am excited to work with a strong team of coaches and the committee and we are all looking forward to the bright future ahead of us, in the fantastic venue Luton has to offer. Over the season I will get to know you all and hopefully help each one of you achieve your maximum potential and goals. I look forward to starting off the new season with Team Luton!
